Walmart Seller Performance Standards: Every Metric, Every Threshold, Every Fix (2026 Updated)

As of August 2026, Walmart Seller Performance Standards now consist of eight metrics for sellers on the U.S. Marketplace. Return Rate, Item Not Received Rate, and Negative Feedback Rate have been enforced since April 2026. Walmart then introduced Late Shipment Rate on April 29 and made the โ‰ค5% standard enforceable at the end of July 2026.

2026 update: If new yellow or red flags appeared on your Performance Dashboard this year, start by checking the three April metrics. Walmartโ€™s March enforcement notice confirms the change, while SPCTekโ€™s March 2026 summary lists the same 6%, 2%, and 2% thresholds.

All 8 Walmart seller performance metrics: thresholds, consequences, and fixes

Check off items onโ€‚this table as you go. The following standards are based on what is currently in the documentation for the Walmart U.S. Marketplace (note that the Late Shipment Rate was introducedโ€‚in 2026).

Metric     Current standard Evaluation window What a miss usually signals How to fix it
Cancellation Rate โ‰ค2% 30-day primary view Inventory, pricing, or ship-window failures; persistent misses can trigger account action. Sync inventory across channels. Keep Estimated Ship Dates achievable. Do not list units you cannot fulfill.
On-Time Delivery Rate (OTD) โ‰ฅ90% 30-day primary view Orders are arriving after the Expected Delivery Date, often because lag time, carrier choice, or handoff timing is wrong. Set realistic lag and transit times. Review carrier performance weekly. Use Simplified Shipping Settings or WFS where appropriate.
Valid Tracking Rate (VTR) โ‰ฅ99% 30-day primary view Tracking is missing, invalid, misleading, or not receiving a valid carrier scan. Use integrated carriers. Validate tracking IDs. Upload tracking only after carrier tender and confirm the first scan.
Seller Response Rate โ‰ฅ95% 30-day primary view Customer inquiries are not being handled within Walmartโ€™s 48-hour response requirement. Check Message Center daily. Use templates for speed, but answer the customerโ€™s specific issue within 48 hours.
Return Rate (NEW โ€” April 2026) โ‰ค6% (โ‰ค9% for Resold inventory) 60 days Product quality, inaccurate content, wrong items, damage, or late delivery are driving seller-accountable returns. Analyze return reasons by SKU. Fix listing accuracy, packaging, picking errors, product defects, and recurring carrier issues.
Item Not Received Rate (NEW โ€” April 2026) โ‰ค2% 60 days Customers report missing or undelivered items because of lost shipments, missing units, or seller-related fulfillment failures. Use reliable carriers, confirm scans, audit missing-item patterns, and add packing checks for multi-item orders.
Negative Feedback Rate (NEW โ€” April 2026) โ‰ค2% 60 days One- or two-star ratings point to product, listing, service, or seller-accountable experience problems. Review low ratings daily. Correct item quality, descriptions, size guidance, packaging, missing parts, and complaint handling.
Late Shipment Rate (NEW โ€” 2026) โ‰ค5% 30-day primary view Orders are marked shipped or first scanned after the Expected Ship Date. Handoff on or before the Expected Ship Date, align cutoff times with capacity, and verify timely carrier scans.

Walmartโ€™s current policy page lists all eight standards and says they are evaluated over 30- or 60-day periods. The detailed Return Rate, Item Not Received Rate, Negative Feedback Rate, and Late Shipment Rate guides provide the metric-specific definitions and thresholds.

Where to check your Walmart seller performance (Seller Scorecard)

In the Seller Center, go to Performance โ†’ Performance Dashboard.

If you still think of this as the Walmart seller scorecard, this is the current dashboard that shows your standing, affected customers, metric drivers, and downloadable order-level reports. Walmart also makes seller performance data available through the Seller app and Seller Performance APIs.

Check the dashboard at least weekly, and more often after a service interruption or during a period of high volume.

For a broader dashboard walkthrough, use the Walmart Seller Central guide.

Keep operational performance separate from listing content health. The Walmart Content Quality Score guide covers content quality, not seller performance.

What changed in 2026?

In April 2026, Walmart updated its Seller Performance Standards, and now three post-purchase metrics, Return Rate, Item Not Received Rate, and Negative Feedback Rate, areโ€‚directly actionable.

Walmart announced Return Rate and INR in January, followed by an affirmation of the enforcement timeline inโ€‚April. Negative Feedback Rate can also apply to WFS orders if the problem is the seller's responsibility. (Although in WFS the risk is on Walmart).

On April 29, Walmart addedโ€‚Late Shipment Rate as a seller performance standard. The metricโ€‚was made accountable as of the end of July 2026, with a target rate of 5% or below for sellers.

At the same time, Walmartโ€™s Developer Portal states that Refund Rate is no longer included in Seller Performance Standards.

That is why some older 2026 guides may show a different eight-metric list.

What happens when you miss a standard: enforcement actions

Missing a threshold does not automatically trigger a fixed four-step sequence.

Walmart says sellers will be notified when performance falls below standard and that account action may be taken when problems continue, or policies are violated.

  • Performance notification: You receive Seller Center and email notifications showing the affected metric and recommended action. Treat this as the point to fix the underlying problem, not as extra time to wait.
  • Suppression: Seller-fulfilled listings become non-transactable and may appear out of stock. Walmart-fulfilled listings can remain live.
  • Pause: Both seller-fulfilled and Walmart-fulfilled listings can become non-transactable until you complete the required tasks.
  • Suspension: Your listings will be deactivated and hidden from buyer access, Seller Central access will be limited, and your paymentsโ€‚may be withheld. You can appeal suspensions orโ€‚restrictions with a business plan of action.
  • Termination: Listings are removed, selling privileges are revoked, and Seller Center access is permanently removed. Walmart states that termination cannot be appealed.

The WFS exemption: whatโ€™s covered and what isnโ€™t

When you sell through Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), Walmart manages the majority of your fulfillment-related seller performance metrics, as it controls the shipping and delivery processes.

The main exception is Negative Feedback Rate.

WFS handles shipping. It does not handle product quality. Negative feedback about your product is still your responsibility.

Walmartโ€™s Negative Feedback Rate guidance says WFS orders are included, while delivery or fulfillment feedback is generally excluded when the issue is not seller-accountable.

For WFS sellers, monitor product defects, inaccurate descriptions, sizing or comfortโ€‚complaints, missing pieces, authenticity concerns, and packaging issues originating pre-WFS or off Walmart fulfillment.

How performance affects Buy Box, visibility, and ad ROI

Performance is important inโ€‚commerce because it influences how sellable your products are and whether you qualify for programs that can make your listings more competitive.

Walmart does not explicitly state that every miss on every performance metric directly results in an organic ranking penalty. The most well-documented connection is fulfillment quality.

Walmart says eligible fast-delivery offers can increase Buy Box wins and rank higher in search and browse results. Those programs require stronger on-time, tracking, and cancellation performance than the baseline standards.

Walmartโ€™s Pro Seller program also uses performance criteria and is designed to improve seller visibility and conversion.

For ads, the relationship is simple: a suppressed or non-fulfillable listing will not convert at the usual rate, and weaker delivery expectations can make the offer look less competitive behind a paid click.

Repair account-healthโ€‚issues before scaling Walmart Connect spend. Otherwise, you are and may continue to be (for some more or less indeterminate amount of time) paying for traffic to an offer hamstrung byโ€‚its operational difficulties.

If you sell on both marketplaces, do not copy Amazon thresholds into Walmart workflows. The Amazon vs Walmart comparison guide covers channel-level differences, while Darkroomโ€™s 2026 KPI comparison adds more cross-market context.

A 24-hour fix plan for a yellow or red performance flag

  1. From the Performance Dashboard, find the exact metric affected, the seller-accountable drivers, the affected orders, and SKUs.
  2. Stop the immediate problem first:โ€‚fix inventory, lag time, carrier, listing, packaging, or customer-response workflow, then move on to wider optimization.
  3. Itemize byโ€‚SKU, carrier, fulfillment center, region, and return or feedback reason. Often, aโ€‚single recidivist driver accounts for the bulk of the damage.
  4. Recordโ€‚the corrective action, owner, date, and verification step. If Walmart requests an appeal orโ€‚a business plan of action, you will have an evidence trail.
  5. Check the dashboard again every day until theโ€‚trend is stable. Do not wait for the next monthly review.

Return-related fixes can also affect margin.

Use the Walmart seller fees guide when you model how preventable returns, fulfillment choices, and category fees affect contribution margin.

Keep the dashboard green before you scale

Walmartโ€™s 2026 standards are more comprehensive than theirโ€‚pre-April equivalents. The operational mantra is straightforward: Know theโ€‚current eight metrics, determine the seller-accountable cause of any miss, and correct the process that allowed the problem.

WFS can remove much of the fulfillment burden, but product quality and negative feedback are still yours to manage.

Frequently asked questions about Walmart Seller Performance Standards

1. What are Walmartโ€™s seller performance standards in 2026?

For sellers on the U.S. Marketplace, the following are the eight key metrics which need to be met:

  • Cancellation Rate (โ‰ค2%)
  • On-Time Delivery Rate (โ‰ฅ90%)
  • Valid Tracking Rate (โ‰ฅ99%)
  • Seller Response Rate (โ‰ฅ95%)
  • Return Rate (โ‰ค6%, or โ‰ค9% for Resold inventory)
  • Item Not Received Rate (โ‰ค2%)
  • Negative Feedback Rate (โ‰ค2%)
  • Late Shipment Rate (โ‰ค5%)

2. What is a good Order Defect Rate on Walmart?

Walmartโ€™s current U.S. Seller Performance Standards do not use one combined Order Defect Rate threshold.

Instead, Walmart tracks separate cancellation, delivery, tracking, response, return, item-not-received, feedback, and late-shipment metrics.

If an older article mentions Walmart ODR, check the current Performance Dashboard before relying on that number.

3. What happens if I fail Walmart seller performance standards?

Walmart can notify you and, depending on how serious or persistent the problem is, suppress, pause, suspend, or terminate the account.

Suppression and suspension may be appealable. Termination is not.

The safest response is to identify the seller-accountable cause immediately and document the corrective action you take.

4. Does WFS exempt sellers from performance standards?

WFS takes care of most fulfillment-related performance metrics for sellers, but it does not exempt you from Negative Feedback Rate.

Seller-accountable feedback related to product quality, inaccurate listings, missing components, or similar issues can still count against you.
